Custom wood and metal bar stools.
Five years in development. Two stool heights, your choice of wood species, your choice of stain, your choice of powder-coat. Swivel base standard. Built one at a time in our Portsmouth shop.
Low Tide — Cherry on BlackLow Tide
36″ counter height
For kitchen counters and breakfast bars. The seat sits at the perfect height for a counter that's 36" off the floor — about three inches shorter than its big brother. Same wood-and-metal construction, same swivel base, same customization options.

High Tide — Hard Maple on BronzeHigh Tide
42″ bar height
For full-height bars and pubs. The taller cousin — built for kitchens and bars where the counter sits at 42" off the floor. Solid wood seat, powder-coated steel base, swivel mechanism that'll outlast the bar itself.

Three decisions you make; we handle everything else.
1. Wood species
Walnut, maple, cherry, sapele, teak, oak — the same 15+ hardwoods we stock for countertops. Pick one that matches your bar, or one that contrasts on purpose.
Most popular: walnut for warmth, hard maple for durability.
2. Stain & finish
Clear-finished to let the natural grain do the talking, or stained to deepen the color. Every stool gets our Satin Sheen Permanent Finish — water and stain resistant for a seat that gets used hard.
3. Powder-coat color
The metal base is powder-coated to your spec — matte black, bronze, brushed steel, or any RAL color you want. Built to keep its finish through years of stool-pushing and shoe-kicking.
A side project that became a product.
By 2018, we'd been making countertops for ten years — and our clients kept asking the same question: do you make stools?
We didn't. Not yet. But we started designing. The first sketches turned into prototypes, the prototypes turned into a four-year crash course in things woodworkers don't normally do: computer-aided design, metalwork, powder coating, packaging, marketing. By 2023 we had two stool models we were proud to put our name on — Low Tide and High Tide — and the Chesapeake Bay Stool Co brand to go with them.
It's still made by the same Portsmouth shop, by the same people. The stool line is custom-built the way we've built every countertop for 18 years: by one qualified craftsman, beginning to end.
